VIP Singers – Saturday Morning Rehearsals 10.30-12.30
“Where’s the biggest smile on Saturday mornings?
St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, might not be your first answer but in SE1, in one of the elegant wood-panelled committee rooms, you would be sure of a warm, South London, welcome and lots of fun. Why? Because a singing group is there – 10:30 to 12:30 – to laugh, sing, dance and enjoy working together, all steered by an amazingly energetic singer/keys player. There is classy singing in harmony, a bit of a physical work out and lots of laughs. Everyone’s contribution is valued and the music making is “Quality Casual” with all kinds of songs worked up to perform out as well as within the Hospital. All musical suggestions from the group are welcome. The lyrics of a song have been rewritten for a campaigning slot across the River at the Palace of Westminster and the keyboard goes on a shopping trolley as the wards are visited at Christmas time. If you are one of those who say “I can’t sing”, two hours in this group will change that. And for those of you who say “two hours is not enough” there are Dictaphones, CDs, large print lyrics, etc. to use for practice at home, and the possibility of meeting another singer in a park for a little impromptu sing-song. Over the summer the group are making a video.
“Freedom is mine”, “Staying Alive”, “Feeling good”.
The VIP singing group meets during term time on Saturdays at South Wing Committee Room, St Thomas’ Hospital, Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7EH. Ring St Thomas’ ECLO on 07770 381758 to find out more and to say when you are hoping to get along”.
